Winter Olympic Games

The Winter Olympics was later invented than the Summer Olympics and the Summer Olympics were originally created in Greece.  In the Winter Olympics skating is one of the most loved sports.

Although skating was born in Europe Americans love to figure skate.  Figure skating is the most graceful sport in the world because there really isn’t any other sport I know that is more graceful than figure skating.  It requires a rink that covers over 30 feet of floor.

Speed skating is one of the most dangerous sports in the Winter Olympics.  Rules:  For a skater to qualify for tournaments or championships he or she must enter in a qualifying competition.

The Winter Olympics is the most fun because there is skiing, skating and snowboarding.

The Brainpop “Olympics” video is currently viewable for free.  Check it out to learn more like I did.

All About Caves

When a cave is formed rain washes away limestone to make a nature formed tunnel.  This is called a cave.  Pretty soon birds, bats, bugs, and glowworms move in.  Over time stalactites and stalagmites begin to form.  They are formed by water and minerals.  Pretty soon people begin to explore caves.  And that is how caves are formed.

Rotogravure?

This morning Mia and I were doing her read-alouds and we discovered a word I had never seen before.  It was thrilling for me.  LOL!  As a former English teacher, it isn’t often that I run across words that I have never seen.  I don’t always know the meaning of some of the words that I read, but very rarely do I see a word that is completely new.  So, we decided to share our word.

This is the link to the definition: “Rotogravure”

Hope you enjoy learning a new word with us.
