Here is my winning essay.
WHY THE HORSE IS IMPORTANT TO US.
Horses are important because they are used in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP). What is EAP? EAP is therapy that helps a client learn from his/her own experience with the horses. It is common to use metaphors in EAP. The metaphors compare how the horses react in the arena, to what goes on in the client’s life.
Why use horses in EAP? Horses are pretty scary for most people. So they can be used to help clients overcome fears and gain confidence for the challenges in life.
In September I participated in an EAP training session, where we did a role play. Several people worked together to get horses over a jump. It helped me learn about EAP and understand without horses, the sessions would just be Psychotherapy in an arena full of horse poop, dust and obstacles. Horses are a crucial part of EAP that help people overcome fears and challenges.
Horses are the focus in EAP; helping clients face problems in their lives. My own opportunity to feel what it’s like to learn about EAP and experience it was special. Someday, I wish to practice EAP on our farm.
I have a riding instructor that does EAP and I feel like that was a big part of my winning essay. I won 25 dollars. I plan to put $10 in the offering plate at church and save $10 and spend $5.
